Abbey Machinery’s 3500 Recessed Tandem Tanker and Trailing Shoe Applicator with ISOBUS technology were selected by UCD Lyons Farm for its long-term grazing study and wider farm use. The Abbey Tank and Trailing Shoe Applicator’s ISOBUS capability was a key feature when selecting machines for the study.
The UCD study at Lyons Farm provides a long-term platform to assess the sustainability of Irish grass-based agriculture systems. Through investigation, the interactions between pasture types, animal production, the environment, labor, and farm economics. The study will help define the vision for Irish agriculture as one of smart, green growth that capitalizes on natural climatic advantages in grass production to achieve economic, environmental, and social resilience and the longer-term viability of the Agri food sector. This study is the first in Ireland and will complement similar international facilities examining other facets of ecology and agriculture.
‘We chose the Abbey3500RT Tanker and Trailing Shoe Applicator for a few reasons, primarily the ISOBUS system and its compatibility with the Trimble GPS system on our tractors. This allows for accurate placement and ease of recording all assisting our sustainability goals. We also really liked the applicator’s capability to maintain pressure, stable and steady on the ground’ comments UCD Lyons farm manager Eddie Jordan. ‘Different people will be supporting the study, so it is important that there is an ease of use among the machines making it intuitive for different users to work the machines effectively to maintain the quality of the study data’ continues Jordan.
The Abbey Tank and Trailing Shoe tanker were selected through a national tender with the specification developed to fulfill the needs of the farm and the research study. The Abbey Machinery Recess Tandem range offers great flexibility in running larger flotation tyres while also maintaining a narrow overall width and reducing ground compaction. The tyres used in conjunction with the self-steer Bogie axle system offers superb ground handling capabilities in all weather conditions.
The Abbey Trailing Shoe technology distributes the slurry on the ground underneath the canopy of the grass. This ensures nutrients are absorbed faster, leaf contamination is reduced, and carbon emissions are reduced to the absolute minimum. As with all LESS equipment the timing and accurate placement of the slurry maximises the optimum nutrition and sustainable quantities of N, P, K to the leafy growing sward.
Abbey Machinery are thrilled to be a key component in this important study with UCD Lyons Farm.
