In 1992, Abbey Machinery became one of the first agricultural manufacturers in Ireland to introduce Low Emission Slurry Spreading (LESS). Since then, Abbey Machinery has developed more efficient ways to spread slurry to reduce emissions.

Our sustainability strategy extends beyond our products to our entire production process and business activities. Although we are early in this journey, we have an active plan to invest in energy-efficient capital equipment. Here are some of our recent initiatives:
Energy-Efficient Equipment:
We have installed a new fibre laser machine, replacing the CO2 laser with a significantly more energy-efficient process. Additional plasma cutting upgrades enhance product quality and increase capacity.
Renewable Energy:
We introduced a 250-kilowatt solar system, reducing our dependency on the electricity grid. Currently, over 60% of our electricity is sourced from renewable energy, with a commitment to achieving 100% green energy in the long term.
Water Conservation:
Our rainwater harvesting system ensures that we use less water than a domestic household, further reducing our environmental impact.
Innovating for Sustainable Farming

LESS Applicators:
Trailing Shoes, Band Spreaders, and Disc Injectors help reduce ammonia loss on farms by 30-60%.
Flow Metering and Monitoring:
Our slurry solution options include various flow metering and monitoring solutions, allowing users to monitor slurry flow and application rates to match forward speed and pre-set application rates.
NIR Technology:
Near-Infra-Red technology measures the nutrient makeup of slurry, enabling farmers to reduce the use of artificial fertilisers and better care for the environment.
Diet Feeders:
Our unique chopping and mixing action in the Diet Feeder range helps animals digest maximum nutrients, enhancing performance and reducing environmental emissions from both nitrogen and methane. Efficient feeding with Diet Feeders can reduce the carbon footprint by approximately 11.2%.
